American Vandal
You may have seen the trailer for American Vandal and thought: is this for real? Has Netflix really made an eight-part series about a community trying to get to the bottom of who is responsible for spraying phallic graffiti all over the local high school? In short, the answer is: yes. But Netflix hasn't completely lost the plot: this show has, of course, got its tongue firmly in its cheek and is a brilliant send-up of all the other whodunnit documentaries to have ever graced the streaming service. Maybe we’re just childish, but it looks pretty funny, too.

Former British model Naomi Campbell (C-R) and fashion designer for Off White, Virgil Abloh (C-L) acknowledge the public at the end of the Off White women’s 2018 Spring/Summer ready-to-wear collection fashion show in Paris, on September 28, 2017. / AFP PHOTO / FRANCOIS GUILLOT Oversized has been cut down to size. For the last two years the catwalks have been awash with sulking teenagers hiding in their hoodies, huge trailing trousers and enormous coats inside of which you could shelter a small family and their fridge. But with the look now filtering down to the high streets, fashion is off again in another direction. Paris Fashion Week has been remarkable for how the Spring/Summer collections are bringing clothes back to the body, with a much closer cut to shake off the studied sha...

It took me 20 years to talk about my childhood

Claudio Yanez always preferred not to talk about his childhood. He kept his distance from people and threw himself into his education and career. But a government report published last year about abuses in the public child care system in Chile brought back terrible memories of being taken into care at the age of 10. This is his story.

What can killer whales teach us about the menopause?

The menopause is a puzzle for biologists. Why would the female of a species cease to reproduce half way through her life, when natural selection favours characteristics that help an individual's genes survive? A study of killer whales - one of only two mammals apart from humans to undergo the menopause - is providing clues. Granny is very spritely for a centenarian. When I finally catch sight of San Juan Island's local celebrity, she leaps clear out of the ocean to delighted gasps from everyone on my boat. Granny is a killer whale, or orca. She lives in a coastal area of the North Pacific, close to Vancouver and Seattle, known as the Salish Sea. And while she is affectionately known as "Granny", her formal name is J2 - an alpha-numeric title that identifies her as a member of a population known as the Southern Resident orcas. It is a clan of 83 killer whales in three distinct pods - J, K and L-pod - all of which return to this area of coastal Pacific waterways ...
